The Autumn Show 2022

The Autumn Show 2021

The Hilltop Gardening Club’s Autumn Show was held at Eastcombe Village Hall on September 11th. After the cancellation of last year’s event due to Covid, we were pleased with the response of 258 class entries from 37 entrants, which was more than had entered previously in 2019.

For the first time there were several new aspects to the show. A special award of a David Austin voucher for the best specimen rose was very kindly donated by Mark Abbott in memory of his mother Peggy Abbott who was a valued member of the club. There was also a cash prize for the best children’s entry, however the number of entries in these classes was very disappointing. The climate action group BISCAN also set up their display stalls outside the Hall to help promote local awareness.

The prizes were presented by our local district councillor Martin Brown and congratulations go to the following people:

Dave Collins Plate for the most points in Show – Esme Ridge, our youngest ever winner of this prize.

Phyllis Gaston Trophy for the second highest points in Show – Robert Bryant.

Mr. Fothergill’s Seed Cup for most points in Fruit/Vegetable Classes –    Phoebe Luckyn-Malone.

Jim Page Trophy for most points in Flowers/Pot Plants Classes – Esme Ridge.

Wrenn Trophy for most points in Home Produce Classes – Janet Gaskell.

The Cotswold Trophy for photography was shared between Heather Collins and Andrew Fraser.

The children’s award went to Isla Khokhar.

David Austin voucher for the best specimen rose went to Robert Bryant.

The show turned out to be a great success and with continuing support we hope to hold the show again next year.

Thank you to all who entered, the judges, and those who helped to set up and clear the Hall.
